Purple watercolor paints

Purple watercolor paints can easily become flat and a bit lifeless.

These are made with pigments that shift slightly, lean warm or cool, or separate a bit when there is enough water.

That creates depth instead of one even surface.

They are especially useful in shadows, where a simple grey often feels too heavy.

You will notice it when:

  • the color changes slightly across the wash
  • shadows feel deeper without becoming dull
  • you don’t need to add extra colors to create variation
