These DIY boxes are where Art to Basic began. They were created for people who want to understand what art materials are actually made of - and experience the slow, satisfying process of turning pigment, binder and natural materials into something they can paint with.

Inside the boxes, you will find the tools, ingredients and instructions needed to make your own watercolor or ink at home. You do not need any previous experience. You simply mix, crush, mull, adjust and watch the material slowly come alive under your hands.

It is a little messy, deeply fascinating and very close to the way I work when I make the handmade watercolors for Art to Basic.
