Purple Peony is a purple that shows up overdressed and still somehow gets away with it.
It’s rich, floral, and slightly dramatic, but it doesn’t go sugary or cartoon purple. In a light wash it opens into a soft petal tone that’s perfect for airy layers and highlights. Push it and it becomes deep and velvety, the kind of purple that makes a flower look like it has secrets.
On paper it behaves nicely. Smooth flow, good layering, and enough variation in the wash to keep it interesting without turning into chaos. It’s obviously made for peonies and florals, but it’s also great for moody shadows, fabrics, backgrounds, and any painting where you want purple with taste.
