Tranquility - No. 71

Tranquility is what you get when you mix green amber with blue anthraquinone and refuse to make it cute.
It’s a muted green with a cool undertone, and it sits right in that slightly weird zone between green, grey, and deep shadow, which is exactly why it’s so useful.

Green amber brings the weight. It settles, grounds the wash, and gives that earthy depth that doesn’t disappear when you add water. Blue anthraquinone pulls the mix cooler and cleaner.

The two pigments blend without sharp contrast, but they don’t fully melt into one flat surface either. They move together, settle differently, and create subtle shifts that show up in the wash, especially in wet-in-wet passages.

This is a quiet green that behaves like a grown up color. It’s excellent for shadows in botanicals, moody landscapes, weathered stone, forest layers, and anything where you want green without “springtime green”.
