Rusty Glitter - No. 30

Rusty Glitter is what happens when brown stops being polite.
It’s raw, earthy, slightly dirty in the best way. It looks like something you’d find on an old metal surface that has been outside for ten years and somehow became more interesting because of it.

The base is a deep rusty brown with real weight. It settles beautifully into the paper, builds strong value range, and gives that textured, weathered look without you needing to “paint texture”. And then the glitter shows up. Not like party glitter. More like small flecks of light trapped inside the wash, catching the surface when you tilt the paper. It’s integrated, not just sprinkled on.

In a light wash you get a dusty, rusty brown with shimmer that feels subtle and satisfying.
In full strength it goes dark and dense, with sparkling highlights that make it look almost metallic. It’s one of those colors that instantly makes a painting look more material based.

This is perfect for old stone, wood, rust, leather, animal fur, tree bark, vintage objects, shadows with warmth, and backgrounds that need a bit of grit.
Basically: if you like clean minimal watercolor only, this is not your color. If you like pigments with personality, you're welcome.
