Prussian Blue - No. 29

Prussian Blue is that friend who looks calm on the outside, but clearly has a whole secret life. One second it’s polite and elegant, the next it’s deep ocean, midnight sky, dramatic shadow, and “sorry, I didn’t mean to make this painting look expensive, it just happened.”

This is a bold, confident blue that instantly gives your work structure. It anchors everything. It creates distance in landscapes, it makes shadows believable, and it can turn a flat painting into something that suddenly has depth, mood, and actual spine.

Straight from the pan it is rich and intense, like ink with good manners. Add water and it opens up into cooler, softer washes that still feel serious. It does not disappear. It just changes outfit and keeps being relevant.

It’s also a ridiculously good mixer. Pair it with warm oranges and you get that delicious punchy contrast that makes the whole painting wake up. Mix it with greens and you can paint everything from pine forests to cold seaweed vibes. And if you go monochrome, Prussian Blue will happily carry the whole piece on its back like a strong parent who says “it’s fine” and then does everything themselves.
