Tarnish is a warm, granulating brownish grey with a muted, slightly metallic feel and visible separation.

It moves slowly across the paper and dries with natural variations, creating the look of aged surfaces, oxidized metal, or old walls. In diluted washes it becomes soft and transparent. With less water it turns deeper and more uneven, leaving behind marks that feel worn and tactile.

Tarnish is ideal for earth, bark, urban textures, aged objects, and grounding areas of a painting where perfection would feel wrong.
